BCIS Research Paper Specs & Timeline

Requirements

 

Length: Minimum 2 pages (not including Works Cited Page)

 

Format:

Ø      Typed

Ø      Double-spaced

Ø      12 pt Times Roman regular (not bold)

Ø      1” margins left, right, top, bottom

Ø      Header (Last name & Page numbers (right aligned))

Ø      Heading (Name, Teachers’ name, class-period, Date)

Ø      Parenthetical citations

Ø      Works Cited page in MLA format

 

References:

Ø      6 references minimum

Ø      No references from Wikipedia or Blog postings

 

Process: You will receive a grade for each of the following

Ø      This signed handout (20 points)

Ø      Sources packet (6 sources – each source is worth 10 points)

Ø      Outline (15 points)

Ø      Rough draft (30 points)

Ø      Peer Edit (25 points)

Ø      Final draft (full grade)

 

Assembly: Your final document should be assembled as follows:

Ø      2 Page Paper

Ø      Works Cited

You will also turn in the following with your final paper.  Your paper will not be graded unless these things are submitted:

Ø      Outline

Ø      Source Packet

You will also turn your paper in to turnitin.com.  I will show you how to do this.

 

Due dates:

Ø      Outline Friday, November 21, 2008 at the end of class.

Ø      Rough draft Wednesday/Thursday, December 3/4, 2008

Ø      Peer Edit  Wednesday/Thursday, December 3/4, 2008

Ø      Final draft at the end of class on Wednesday/Thursday, December 3/4, 2008

I.                    Warm-up—Write a 1 paragraph introductory statement about your research topic.  Write it from the vantage point of trying to get as many people to read your research as possible

Mini Research Paper

 

Today you will write a mini research paper in class.  This paper will be written in MLA format.  This paper will be a two-page document about ‘what experiences have made you who you are’.  This paper will be turned in at the end of class.  Please use your warm-up time (1st ten minutes of class) to formulate ideas and then begin to set up your MLA formatted document in Microsoft Word and begin to write.

I. Warm-up–Free Fridays.  Students may type a paragraph on the subject of their choice.  All students should e-mail me their work at the Appropriate e-mail for their period

II. On-line Scavenger Hunt—Each student should get on-line scavenger hunt worksheet and work on-line to find all items.  Turn in at end of period.

III. On-line search techniques hand-out students should review for quiz on Monday.
